BOEGER WINERY ■
IMG5381

The Boeger Winery preserves a 130 year tradition of agriculture and wine-making in El Dorado County.

Beginning in the late 1840’s, the area saw permanent settlement by European immigrants, who brought with them their farming skills and traditions.

The first structure on the land was this Lombardo residence, erected by builder Giovanni Napoleau Lombardo.

Constructed in the vernacular-style in the year 1872, it sits on the foundation of a previous residential structure from 1856. This building has a raised cellar originally used as a small winery, and living accommodation situated above. The structure was built of mortar applied over stone, although much of this has worn away over the years, and the original wood shingle roof has since been replaced by metal sheeting.

As the winery expanded over the years, this historic building was used less and less, and the cellar was relegated to storage space.

The Boeger family, wishing to preserve this important piece of history, instructed the architect to provide preliminary plans for the stabilization and maintenance of the structure.

Foremost was keeping water out of the building and away from the foundations.

Planning services also included upgrades to the interior and exterior lighting, floating a new floor over and existing one, and a general sprucing up of the space.

In all areas, planning and design were very respectful of the historic nature of the building.
