This restaurant, located on Sacramento’s Capitol Ave., was fashioned from an old automobile garage. Change of use was obtained from the city’s Planning Department, and then drawings for the building’s rebirth were undertaken. The space was conceived as an open warehouse, into which its new function was inserted. Existing brick walls were untouched, the concrete floor was painted and fixtures in either natural or aniline-dye stained plywood were designed. A long bar, covered in natural copper, runs the length of the space, and is backed by decorative tiling. A custom designed, undulating screen wall with upholstered banquette seating sits opposite the bar. Concealed spotlighting and industrial fixtures help to highlight the building’s former architecture. Although this restaurant has since changed ownership and name, its existence is still very much in evidence as midtown Sacramento continues to thrive. credit: chinn rusconi architects-with julie nagler design |
